The winds blew in the thunderstorms and there were two rain delays. When the boys finally got the last delay behind them, they fired up those 850 horsepowered rocket ships and drove like they were double parked!!!!
Most of the Chase contenders had a bad day! Tires blew, sheet metal bent and tempers flew…. and this isn’t Bristol or Martinsville!!!!! The Chase is now dividing up the contenders and the pretenders!!!!!
Dover’s nickname was realistic! The Monster Mile ate up several cars today. The worst crash ocurred with about 30 laps to go. That wreck involved 12 cars and took out a few of the championship contenders. I think that two teams might have got themselves in a place that they can’t recover from! The addition of two more teams to the Chase makes this year much more dynamic and exciting!!
Our standings are extremely close from 1st through 9th place, just 10 points separate those positions!
PS There is video sent out to further explain Dover!!!!!
The long awaited “Chase for the Cup” has begun. However, there was a curve ball thrown today at Louden, NH! The one driver who hasn’t won a single race, but who has finished very consistenly this season, finally got the monkey off his back! Not only did Clint Bowyer win today, he thoroughly dominated the race!!! That has thrown a monkey wrench into the standings at the beginning of the Chase. I predict that the Championship will not be determined until the checkered flag is dropped at Homestead!!!
Speaking of the standings, ours is starting out for this segment, to be very tight. The first 10 places are within 24 points and 11th through 16th place is only separated by 26 points. That kind of closeness will make for some great fun over the next nine races!
Richmond has come and gone and the excitement is about to start! There was a little drama last night, although not as much as in the past couple of years.
The stage of excitement was centered around “The Rock Star” of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He needed desperately to drive the race of his life to get into the Chase!!! He started in 21st position and drove up through the field like a knife through warm butter!! ( I WILL BET THE OLD MAN WAS GRINNING FROM EAR TO EAR AS HE LOOKED DOWN! ) All night he hovered around 3rd to 5th position, just stalking the leaders. His nemisis was Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch, who needed to finish worse that about 32nd and 35th, respectively for Jr to get into “The Show”. Then, the arrow directly to the heart!! That mighty 850 horsepower engine that propelled his steely white rocket ship to the front “GRENADED” on him!!!!!!! That malfunction torpedoed the hopes of Jr and his “JR. NATION” of getting another shot at a championship.
This writer may now show his bias when making this observation:
“Being charter member of JR. NATION, it would appear to me that Theresea Earnhardt is soley intrumental in the apparent distruction of Dale Earnhardt Jr and the number 8 Bud team”!!!! It isn’t coincidental that when Jr. made it public that he was leaving DEI, all the sudden Truex started to perform and Jr.’s team ultimately got 5 DNF’s (did not finish), motor failure after motor failure!!!!!! Good bye DEI!!!! I can’t wait for 2008 and see Jr. in the Hendrick camp! The stars and the planets are about to line up for Jr. in 2008!
What are your thoughts and pedictions regarding Jr., Hendricks, his sponsor, and his number????? I am interested in your comments.
WHAT WAS THAT BLUR? Look out Jeff, look out Jimmie, look out Tony, Jr. is coming to the front!!!
Attention to all, I must have your top 12 picks by Weds so I can compile them and distribute them to everyone!!!!!!!
1. Scott——————–4 (Picked the winner)
That title to the blog is very appropriate. It felt like it was 500 degrees at the race track!!!!! The temperature was brutal!!!! The high temp at our campsite on Sunday at about 4:30pm was 113.4 degrees. Fontana, CA was sweltering. It was so hot that we did not even go to our seats for Saturday evening’s Busch race or for Sunday’s Cup race!!!!! We sat in our air conditioned RV and watched the race from relatively cool seats on TV! It was the most uncomfortable weekend of NASCAR racing that I have been to ever.
Now that I have complained about the weather, the racing, however, was outstanding! I can’t believe that the drivers didn’t get heat strokes or something.
We had two people pick the winner this week, Richard and Jesse-way to go.
This Friday night sets the field for the Chase, so please get me your top 12 picks ASAP after the Richmond race. It takes some time to compile them and distribute the picks back to everyone!!!!
1. Richard————-1 (Picked the winner)
