So Long And Farewell, My Friend

(Jerry Dean Noblett)

It was the “summer of 1969” that I met you in the that unforgettably hot gymnasium at Fresno State.  However, it was a cool late spring morning on May 24, 2010, that I said my final farewell to you, my friend.

Jerry, I know that you were watching from above and wondering what all the fuss was about?  Well, my friend, you touched many people during your visit here on Earth.  Your honesty, kindness, and sincerity was always evident.  Your presence cast a huge shadow among friends and family that can not erased.

You know I once heard a saying that has always stuck with me. It goes like this:

“It is not what you take with you when you leave this Earth, rather, it is what you leave on this Earth when you are gone.”

Jerry what you have left on this Earth as your legacy is your honesty, integrity, and courage.  Those three traits embodied what Jerry Dean Noblett was all about.  The courage was most definitely personified in the last few months of your life, battling heart and kidney disease.  Only your family know just how courageous you were.

For those of us that have had the privilege of knowing you and calling you their friend, we will forever miss you!

So I say, with a very empty and heavy heart, so long and farewell my friend.  I will miss you!

PS  Keep the pinnacle game ready for Detjen, Bomprezzi, and me, ok!

  3. Leon, thank you for being such a good friend to Jerry. He spoke of you often and would laugh. He used to say you were a “wild man”. I think he was probably right. I wish I could have known you better. Please keep in touch. It makes me feel so much closer to Jerry to talk to people that knew him so well. Thanks again. Jeanne

  5. Leon, thank you for those kind words about Jerry. Jerry left a great legacy behind, it was evident by the number of people who came to his memorial. People like Jerry come into ours lives not often enough. When they do and leave us too soon, it really leaves an empty spot in our hearts. I can not even begin to tell you how much I miss him. He was my rock, my best friend and my sounding board. I talked everything over with him. He was a good, decent, honest, fun loving man and I’ll love him forever. Thank you for being such a good friend, Marty

  7. Leon – you have written heartfelt tributes to Jerry and I know how much it means to Marty, Jason, Jeanne and the rest of our family and Jerry’s friends. Jerry was truly one of a kind and loved beyond measure. His absence will be felt for a very long time. Right now I can only find comfort in knowing that Jerry no longer labors to breathe and he has been reunited with his mom Hattie and his cousin Mike. I know he rests in the heavens above and will be our guardian angel until we join him. Please keep Marty in your thoughts and prayers and close to your heart. Of all of us, Marty suffers from Jerry’s passing the most.
